About the job

This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery of high quality legal advice and advocacy services for London's second largest council. The role will primarily concern advising in-house solicitors, council officers and stakeholders, providing internal legal training, settling pleadings and undertaking advocacy across the full spectrum of local authority housing work, with a particular focus upon homelessness appeals, disrepair, anti social behaviour, commercial leases and judicial review proceedings.

The successful candidate will join a highly regarded legal service with Lexcel accreditation and a proven commitment to on-going professional development.

About the person

The successful candidate will be a barrister or solicitor with higher rights of audience. They will be an expert in housing and homelessness law, with significant advocacy experience and a proven track record of representing clients in the County Court. Experience of trial and appellate advocacy is essential.

Vacancie at Ealing

We are a highly regarded legal team in West London and are recruiting a property lawyer to join our busy property team and provide expert advice on a diverse range of property matters including acquisitions and disposals, leases and licences (including landlord and tenant), Right to Buy and support housing and town centre regeneration schemes including CPO work. As an experienced property lawyer, you will deliver expert legal support to client services.

We will value your drafting abilities and transactional expertise as well as your commercial and solution-based pragmatism when working on projects and helping the Council to manage risk. You will report to the property team's senior lawyer and have the opportunity to work alongside the team's head of legal and other lawyers in legal services to ensure the delivery of high quality legal services for the benefit of the Council. You will be an experienced solicitor, barrister or FILEX specialising in property matters with proven knowledge of transactional work as well as property law generally.

Ideally you will have compulsory purchase experience. Experience of local authority governance and decision making would be an advantage, but this is not essential for the role. You will have excellent communication and IT skills and have the ability to work as a team player in a commercial and pragmatic way as we work with other Council officers to meet the high demand for excellent value for money public services.
