Solicitor (Planning, Highways and Licensing)

Our Shared Legal Service undertakes legal work for and advises Members, Committees and officers at the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster City Council.

We are looking for one skilled and enthusiastic England and Wales solicitor with planning and highways experience. Licensing experience would also be desirable. The post holder will enjoy a wealth of challenging and varied legal work, sometimes within tight timescales. The successful candidate will strengthen our Planning, Highways and Licensing Team. 

You will also be keen to develop your skills in other areas of legal work covered by the team. You will need to manage your own workloads and juggle competing demands and deadlines.

You will be a confident and skilled with a "can do" attitude, have a commercial outlook and will look for innovative and collaborative ways to deliver a client focused service which adds value for our clients and taxpayers.

The successful candidate will be based in Hammersmith Town Hall and will be employed by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

About the Job

To handle Freedom of Information requests submitted to the Council and also to assist the Council's Statutory Data Protection Officer in ensuring that the Council meets all the requirements of the new data protection laws which are coming into force in May 2018.


About the person
The Council is looking for someone who has a good understanding of the statutory frameworks relating to both Freedom of Information and Data Protection and who also has the ability to ensure that they are fully applied in practice. The successful candidate will be someone who is able to work independently to strict deadlines and will be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Members and Officers at all levels across the Council.
